New Moon in Gemini: The Language of Flowers

The quiet devastation of receiving a yellow carnation (rejection) delivered to your home in response to a red tulip (declaration of love) you sent in 19th century France. Like lol calm down. But however disturbing and confusing to see someone crying because they received the *wrong* flowers (lol or normal idk what you wildcats are up to in quarantine), we do things like this all the time. We have our own ridiculous symbolic language that translates to: I am good, this person loves me, something bad is going to happen. Good signs and bad signs and unintentional give-aways on our intentions. Like most impish games created by Mercury, there is a method to the madness that’s much deeper than it looks to the average observer. A kiss is not just a kiss. This is Gemini in a nutshell—there’s so many ways to say something and such a rich vocabulary to describe a feeling, that language can be the perfect way of avoiding an intimal experience which is largely uncomfortable, messy, overwhelming in some way—even when the message is good. Often the messages never spoken aloud are the most salient for us. You’re picking up on all of them loud and clear now and learning a new one all your own.

Gemini is the cosmic street-smart student—the ever learning storyteller who pays attention to subtle social dynamics, trends, and even the stylistic currency of fashion. Like a bird with its own song and plumage, Gemini enters a situation sizing everyone up and picking out the hierarchy: the drama, the who’s fucking who, the little gestures that tell you who a stranger is and what their intentions are. There’s something you’re learning about yourself with the subtlety of an arcane physical language like this right now. There are symbols coming up that only you can understand and they hit you differently than anyone else. You’re being given the tools to express yourself differently under this transit. A new language to judge yourself and others by, to express affection, and to call and respond. The symbols that appear for you will change now, but they will be an indicator of larger changes that are happening long-term.

There’s a message that comes to you with this New Moon. You have so much power in words, but this transit is giving you the creativity to find new ways to express yourself and recognize that a path or relationship has changed even if you have no tangible evidence. Trust yourself and stay open and the symbols that come up will reflect what’s changing in you. You’re being given the opportunity to draw a clean slate over the conversations you keep having over and over with no progress and start speaking more subtly yet more clearly. The messages that come up under the New Moon influence are peaceful and simple: they are harmless clues for where you’re headed.

There’s Saturn energy with this New Moon which suggests small and incremental changes toward a goal with a lot of moving parts. Saturn is trined here and giving you strength and tenacity to move forward without fear as the kaleidoscope turns around you. Under this influence, everything takes its place on the stage of your life just as the curtain opens, but there’s a lot of rushing about behind the scenes, smoothing of costumes, and moving the lighting. This is a profound but elusive time before the lunar eclipse, where the world is very quiet and it seems like nothing is happening. The flower is about to bloom, so enjoy this liminal period of sleep while you still can.

The childlike qualities of Gemini are being activated now by the more parental attitude of Saturn. You’re nurturing your inner child and beginning to tell a new story about yourself. You’re an actress on stage and your language is subtle. Everything has meaning. The colors, the sounds, the textures—all part of a vast web of language drawing you out and showcasing your life as the mythic story it always has been. You’re part of an unbreakable fabric of humanity and your stories interlace with others and have for all of time: you with your neighbors, you with your friends, your family with your ancestors. It’s time to shift the dynamic quietly and forever. You don’t have to say things like you always have or do them the way you thought you always would.

flowers given upside down: reverse the meaning

flowers given with ribbon on right side: message meant for recipient

flowers given in the right hand: answer was “yes”
